Farm&City Entry Level Organizer
The Entry Level Organizer works at the heart of Farm&City’s mission, leading campaigns to change Texas public policy, working with our team and partners across the state to seize various opportunities for improving Texans’ lives, and contributing new ideas, methods, and strategies as they learn how to accomplish good for the people of Texas in the Farm&City way.
The successful Entry Level Organizer is expected to grow in their career with the organization with exposure to all areas of our work, including ending traffic deaths, increasing transit funding, building an equitable transportation decision-making system, and building equitable, sustainable regional growth strategies for Texas metros.
For 2022, the Entry Level Organizer will focus on the Austin Parking Reform Coalition, Texas Vision Zero Summit, Central Texas Families for Safe Streets, and our Texas State Transportation Reform Coalitions. This is a full time job based in Austin, Texas, that is primarily virtual as well as in-person events, meetings, and access to a shared office space.

Primary Responsibilities:
- The Entry Level Organizer will coordinate, schedule, organize & promote events, coalitions, and campaigns to include being the lead person from Farm&City on these efforts:
- Austin Parking Reform Coalition – Working with a coalition of nonprofits and community groups to end minimum parking requirements in the City of Austin.
- Central Texas Families for Safe Streets – Supporting our partner organization and the members of CTFSS who seek policy changes so that others do not have to suffer from traffic crashes as they have.
- Austin Parking Reform Coalition – Working with a coalition of nonprofits and community groups to end minimum parking requirements in the City of Austin.
- The Entry Level Organizer will support other Farm&City staff on these efforts:
- Texas Vision Zero Summit – Hosting inaugural statewide summit of advocates, government officials, and business leaders who believe we can end traffic deaths in Texas and will work together on solutions.
- Texas State Transportation Reform Coalitions – Working with community groups, nonprofits, and local leaders across the state to increase transit funding, improve TxDOT planning processes, and focus public resources on safe, multimodal access for all.
- Texas Vision Zero Summit – Hosting inaugural statewide summit of advocates, government officials, and business leaders who believe we can end traffic deaths in Texas and will work together on solutions.
- The Entry Level Organizer will spend at least one half of their time for the first six months facilitating the Austin Parking Reform Coalition, including:
- Ensure coalition meetings are well run, taking notes, and keeping partners engaged
- Contact organizations, businesses, notables, individuals for their support
- Develop relationships with Austin City Council staff on this issue
- Collaborate with coalition on materials:
- Website
- Action campaigns
- One pagers and reports
- Flyers
- Articulate our main arguments, make the case, collect data
- Stakeholder mapping: Who to convince and who are allies
- Setting up meetings with Council offices, outside experts, folks from outside campaigns, etc.
- Setting up advocacy infrastructure: Petitions, events, etc.
- Liaise with Parking Reform Network to exchange ideas with other campaigns
- Ensure coalition meetings are well run, taking notes, and keeping partners engaged
- And other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

- Preferred Qualifications:
- Excited about walkable urbanism, transportation reform, equitable representation, and climate responsibility
- Graduate level work in public policy, government, urban planning, transportation or related field
- Experience in advocacy campaigns, public policy, and/or public-facing communications roles
- Motivated and self-directed: While this position is based in Austin and we have access to shared office space, our organization is significantly virtual at this time, requiring strong ability to collaborate with co-workers and partners with extended periods working remotely on your own
- Multilingual
- Excited about walkable urbanism, transportation reform, equitable representation, and climate responsibility
Base salary: Full time / exempt at $38,000 a year with no benefits to begin with, with the assumption that Farm&City hopes to adopt normal nonprofit employee benefits package by 2023. For the successful candidates, there is significant room for growth as our organization grows. Performance-based bonus package negotiable.
