Policy Drivers Episode Two: Monica Guzmán of Austin’s GAVA

Today – for the second episode of Policy Drivers – we talked with Monica Guzmán, Policy Director for Go Austin! Vamos Austin!.

She focuses on targeting issues that communities want and working closely with them to provide in-person outreach and realization of goals through research and evaluation of public policy. Monica is a native Austinite passionate about public education, housing affordability, Latinx community health, social service systems, and domestic violence, and serves on the Caritas of Austin Board of Directors.

Monica earned a BA in Political Science from St. Edward’s University and her MA in Human Sciences- Sociology and Education from Our Lady of the Lake University. Her focus within GAVA is building up a coalition in North Austin, leading and coordinating GAVA’s Policy Team, and keeping up with transportation and mobility issues, and police-community interactions.
